Title:The Chinese remainder theorem and Lagrange polynomial interpolation
Abstract:The pandemic is believed to have had a profound influence on higher education in unprecedented ways; this tiny seminar, interrupted for a couple of months, is no exception. Nevertheless, the in-person meetings will be resumed next Monday when analogies of two famous theorems are to be investigated: the Chinese remainder theorem and the Lagrange polynomial interpolation. Trying to appreciate a deeper understanding of both, we will compare the following two operations which determine, respectively, (1) an integer number solution to a system of linear congruences with pairwise relativelyprime moduli and, (2) a polynomial solution whose values at a finite set ofdistinct points are presumed.
