To enhance the internationalization of the university and accelerate the construction of "Double First-Class" initiatives, from September 12th to 16th 2023, a delegation of three members from the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Northwestern Polytechnical University(NPU), including Vice Dean Du Lin, Assistant Dean Liu Xiaogang, and Director of the Probability and Statistics Department Wang Liang, was invited to visit Novosibirsk State University(NSU) to conduct a bilateral symposium on mathematics and mechanics. This visit received strong support and guidance from the International Cooperation Office of NPU.
On September 13th, the delegation from NPU held discussions and convened the bilateral symposium on mathematics and mechanics with Igor Vladimirovich Marchuk, Dean of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of NSU, and Evgeniy Pavlovskiy, Director of Educational Programs. Prof. Marchuk warmly welcomed the delegation from NPU and provided a brief introduction of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics. Prof. Du Lin expressed heartfelt gratitude for the hospitality at NSU, Prof. Xiao Manyu provided a detailed overview of the School of Mathematics and Statistics of NPU. The symposium featured 11 academic presentations, including four from NPU and seven from NSU. Experts in attendance shared and exchanged ideas on topics related to fundamental mathematics, complex systems, artificial intelligence, and more, creating a lively atmosphere during the symposium.
On September 14th, the delegation from NPU visited the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics and invited professors from the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics to visit NPU in late October of this year and participate in the "Data-Driven Numerical Simulation International Conference" hosted by the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
On September 15th, the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of NSU and the delegation from the School of Mathematics and Statistics of NPU engaged in discussions on inter-university cooperation. Prof. Lin Du pointed out the close collaboration between our two universities, especially in the execution of the "Artificial Intelligence" summer program, which have achieved fruitful results. Prof. Lin Du expressed hope for further deepening of cooperation and exchanges between the two sides and continuous expansion of high-level talent cultivation. The discussions also focused on topics such as international cooperative education, dual-degree master's programs, undergraduate overseas thesis projects, and the International Summer School, reaching consensus on various issues. After the discussion, Ptof. Du Lin, on behalf of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, presented a He Zun statue model as a gift to the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of NSU.
This visit to Novosibirsk further strengthened the academic friendship and cooperation between Northwestern Polytechnical University and Novosibirsk State University in the fields of mathematics and mechanics. It has also expanded the academic influence of both the university and laid a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in Sino-foreign cooperative education and other areas.
