Background: In order to solidly advance the construction of "Double First-Class" universities, enhance the school's international education capabilities, effectively promote the local international development of students, and broaden students' international perspectives, the School of Mathematics and Statistics invited 10 experts and scholars from 7 different countries to conduct the all-English Summer International School courses from July 1 to July 12, 2024. Among these courses, three were conducted online, while seven were conducted offline, attracting more than 170 graduate and undergraduate students and achieving excellent results.
To further deepen the school's international exchange and cooperation, the School of Mathematics and Statistics organized an offline academic exchange meeting with the experts of the Summer International School on July 10, 2024. Foreign representatives present at the meeting included Prof. Tomasz Lewiński from Warsaw University of Technology, Prof. Gerold Baier from University College London, Associate Professor Gorshkov Aleksei from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Prof. Bau Sheng from University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, and Researcher Andrey Nechesov from Novosibirsk State University in Russia. Attendees from the School of Mathematics and Statistics included Dean NIE Yufeng, Party Secretary WANG Li, Vice Dean of Internationalization DU Lin, Director of the Office of International Collaboration and Cooperation XIAO Manyu, and Internationalization Secretary LI Zhuorong. The meeting was chaired by Director XIAO Manyu.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dean NIE Yufeng delivered a welcome speech, warmly welcoming all the experts and scholars and congratulating them on the successful holding of the Summer International School. Subsequently, Director XIAO Manyu provided an overview of Northwestern Polytechnical University, including details about the School of Mathematics and Statistics, its programs, faculty, talent cultivation, scientific research, and cooperation needs.
Following this, each participating foreign expert introduced their respective schools, academic backgrounds, and research achievements, sharing their experiences and insights in international academic cooperation.
During the subsequent free discussion time, participants engaged in lively exchanges and discussions, creating a highly interactive atmosphere.
Dean NIE Yufeng and Mrs. WANG Li presented honorary certificates to the foreign experts, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the Summer International School.
In conclusion, Vice Dean DU Lin emphasized that the successful holding of the Summer International School and the offline exchange meeting fully demonstrated the efforts and achievements of the School of Mathematics and Statistics in international education. She stressed that the school will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with universities worldwide, promote more high-level international academic exchange activities, and inject new vitality into the school's international development.
